Weaverville, California – Snow will drop to 2,000 feet by tonight, putting major Trinity County highways at risk for chain controls and near-impossible travel through Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Trinity County above 2,000 feet until 4 p.m. Wednesday. An additional 5 to 8 inches of snow is expected, with isolated totals up to 17 inches above 3,000 feet. Snow levels will fall from above 4,000 feet early Monday to near 2,000 feet tonight, with the potential to dip as low as 1,500 feet during heavier bursts late tonight into Tuesday morning.

Hwy 299 over Buckhorn Summit and Oregon Mountain, along with Hwy 3 at Scott Mountain and Hayfork Summit, will see the most significant impacts. Caltrans may require chains as snowfall rates intensify, especially late Monday night through Tuesday morning when the heaviest snow is expected.

Residents should delay non-essential travel and carry emergency supplies if driving is unavoidable. Downed trees and power lines remain possible under heavier snow. Conditions will stay hazardous through Wednesday afternoon, and additional updates are likely as snowfall continues.
