Sacramento, California – Water is already covering some roadways across the Sacramento Valley this morning after up to 2 inches of rain fell overnight, prompting a Flood Advisory through 4 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, urban and small stream flooding is ongoing across portions of Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Yolo counties. Law enforcement reported flooding around 9:45 a.m., with 1 to 2 inches of rain recorded over the past 12 hours.

Low-lying roads in Sacramento, Stockton, Elk Grove, Roseville and Folsom are seeing ponding, with additional impacts reported near Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Lodi and West Sacramento. Portions of U.S. Highway 50 may experience standing water, increasing the risk of hydroplaning during the midday commute.

Storm drains may struggle to keep up in urban neighborhoods, especially where debris blocks runoff. Drivers are urged to slow down and avoid flooded intersections. Officials stress: Turn around, don’t drown. Most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.

Rain tapers later this afternoon, but standing water could linger into the evening. Additional advisories are possible if heavier showers redevelop.
