Colville, Washington – Snow is steadily coating higher elevations across northeast Washington this morning, and drivers over Sherman Pass and Flowery Trail Road could face slick pavement through the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. PST for the Okanogan Highlands and until 7 p.m. PST for the Northeast Mountains. Areas above 2,500 feet, including Sherman Pass, Wauconda Summit and Flowery Trail Road, may see 2 to 7 inches of snow. Lower elevations around Republic, Colville and Newport can expect lighter totals up to 2 inches.

The Waterville Plateau, including Mansfield and Badger Mountain Road, remains under an advisory until 3 p.m. PST, where up to 2 inches of wet snow could create slushy and slippery stretches.

Farther east, Idaho’s Central Panhandle Mountains and Lewis and southern Nez Perce counties enter an advisory from 7 p.m. PST tonight through 10 a.m. PST Tuesday. Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and Dobson Pass may pick up 2 to 5 inches overnight, with 1 to 2 inches in lower valleys such as St. Maries and Kamiah.

Drivers should reduce speed, increase following distance and check WSDOT or Idaho 511 road updates before traveling. Snow showers taper late tonight in Washington but continue into Tuesday morning in Idaho.
