Spokane, Washington – Drivers across the Okanogan Highlands should expect slick roads through 6 p.m. Monday as light snow continues to fall over mountain passes and rural highways.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Republic, Sherman Pass, Wauconda Summit and surrounding areas until 6 p.m. Monday. Additional snowfall up to one inch is expected, enough to create icy stretches along Highway 20, Chesaw Road and Boulder Creek Road. Even light accumulation may reduce traction during the morning and evening commutes.

Farther east, another advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. Monday for north-central Idaho and the central Panhandle mountains, lasting until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Communities including Kellogg, Wallace, Lookout Pass, St. Maries, Kamiah and Winchester could see 1 to 3 inches of snow overnight. Slippery conditions are likely along Interstate 90 near Lookout Pass and on Fourth of July Pass, as well as portions of U.S. Highway 95 and State Highway 3.

While snowfall totals remain modest, untreated roads and colder overnight temperatures may lead to icy patches by early Tuesday.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check WSDOT or Idaho 511 for real-time travel updates. Conditions are expected to improve later Tuesday morning as snowfall tapers off.
