Anchorage, Alaska – Snow and 40 mph wind gusts will slash visibility to a half mile or less along the Northern Bristol Bay Coast through midnight, creating sudden whiteout conditions for communities from Togiak to Dillingham.
According to the National Weather Service in Anchorage, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight Monday for the Togiak Bay coastline, including Manokotak, Togiak and Dillingham. Total snowfall of 3 to 5 inches is expected as a strong storm pushes into the region this morning. Winds will gust between 25 and 40 mph, blowing freshly fallen snow across roads and open areas.
Visibility may drop rapidly in heavier bursts of snow, especially along exposed stretches near the coast. Travel could become very difficult at times, with drifting snow covering roadways and airstrips. Conditions are expected to gradually improve late tonight as the storm weakens.
Residents are urged to delay non-essential travel and remain indoors when possible. If heading outside, dress in layers and cover exposed skin to reduce the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Drivers should slow down and use caution until winds ease and visibility improves. The advisory remains in effect through midnight, with updates possible if conditions worsen.
