Colorado – Strong southwest winds are already sweeping across El Paso County this morning, pushing dry air over parched grasslands and raising fire danger across Colorado Springs. Gusts will strengthen through the afternoon, and any spark could spread quickly. If you’re driving along I-25 or Highway 50, expect sudden crosswinds and blowing dust.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for gusty winds and low relative humidity. Southwest winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph today and up to 60 mph Tuesday. Humidity may drop as low as 11 percent. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

Temperatures climb to near 68 degrees today under partly sunny skies. That warmth combined with wind creates critical fire weather conditions. Secure loose items and avoid parking on dry grass. Fire crews remain on alert across southern Colorado.

By Tuesday afternoon, a slight 20 percent chance of showers develops after 11 a.m., though most areas stay dry and breezy with a high near 58. Cooler air moves in Tuesday night, dropping lows into the mid-20s.

Midweek brings a shift. Wednesday carries a 20 percent chance of snow showers before late morning, with highs near 51. Light accumulations are possible in heavier bursts. Roads could turn briefly slick, especially on bridges, as temperatures hover near freezing early. Flash freezing becomes a concern where moisture lingers after sunset.

Thursday and Friday keep scattered snow shower chances, with highs in the 40s and lows dipping into the teens. Conditions gradually calm by the weekend. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs near 43, warming to near 48 Sunday.

Looking ahead into President’s Day week, longer-range trends signal a warming pattern. Above-normal temperatures may build late week, hinting at early spring vibes across southern Colorado.
