Arizona – Winds are already whipping across the Mogollon Rim this morning, and by midday gusts near 50 mph will rattle windows and push high-profile vehicles across open stretches of I-40. Snow follows this evening, and travel conditions will deteriorate quickly after sunset. If you have plans across northern Arizona, adjust them now.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. with south winds 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. Unsecured objects could blow around, and isolated power outages are possible. Drivers of RVs and tractor trailers should use extreme caution.

A Winter Weather Advisory begins at 8 p.m. and continues through 5 p.m. Tuesday. Snow totals could reach 4 to 8 inches across Flagstaff, Forest Lakes, and the Kaibab Plateau. Snowfall rates may become heavy at times Tuesday, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Blowing snow will reduce visibility and create drifting on I-17 and Highway 89.

Temperatures fall from near 50 degrees today to the lower 30s Tuesday afternoon. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous. Flash freezing is possible where melting occurs during the day and refreezes by nightfall. Slow down and check az511 before traveling.

Snow showers continue into Wednesday with another 4 to 8 inches possible and gusts near 44 mph. Conditions gradually improve late week, though scattered snow showers linger into Friday. By the weekend, sunshine returns and highs rebound into the 40s and near 50 by Sunday.

Long-range trends hint at milder air building into President’s Day week, with above-normal temperatures signaling early spring vibes ahead.
