Glasgow, Montana – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon as snow and strong winds threaten travel across northeast Montana.

According to the US National Weather Service in Glasgow, a winter storm system is expected to move into the region late Tuesday, bringing accumulating snow and increasing winds. While snowfall totals remain uncertain, portions of northeast Montana could see 2 to 6 inches of snow, with lighter amounts elsewhere.

Forecasters warn that gusty winds combined with falling snow may create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Whiteout conditions are possible at times, especially in open country and along east-west roadways.

Travel may become difficult late Tuesday into Wednesday, particularly along US Highway 2, Montana Highway 13, Montana Highway 16, and Interstate 94 near Glendive. Rapid changes in visibility and snow-covered roads could impact both local and commercial traffic.

Officials also note potential stress on newborn livestock due to cold wind and accumulating snow.

The most significant impacts are expected Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, though conditions could vary depending on the storm track and wind speeds.

Drivers, ranchers, and residents are encouraged to review travel plans, prepare emergency kits, and monitor updated forecasts as snowfall totals and wind speeds become clearer.

The midweek storm may affect school transportation and morning commutes across the region.

Residents should continue checking weather.gov/glasgow for the latest updates as the Winter Storm Watch remains in effect.
