Boise, Idaho – Mountain highways across west-central Idaho could turn slick within hours as snow spreads in by 8 p.m. Monday, threatening the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a Winter Weather Advisory runs from 8 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday for the Boise Mountains and West Central Mountains, including McCall, Cascade, Warm Lake, Anderson Dam and surrounding areas. Snow totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected, with 6 to 12 inches possible above 6,000 feet.
Higher passes and exposed stretches will see accumulating snow overnight, especially on bridges and overpasses where surfaces cool fastest. Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly after midnight as snowfall rates increase.
A separate advisory covers the Owyhee Mountains, Southwest Highlands and southern Malheur County in Oregon from 8 p.m. MST (7 p.m. PST) to 8 a.m. MST Tuesday. Those areas could see 1 to 3 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 35 mph, producing pockets of blowing snow and reduced visibility near Murphy Hot Springs, Silver City and Grasmere.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 for real-time road conditions. Slippery roads are likely through daybreak Tuesday, and additional advisories may follow if snowfall lingers into the morning commute.
