Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Temperatures have fallen below freezing across parts of southwest Pennsylvania as dense fog reduces visibility to less than half a mile in some areas, creating a risk for light icing through early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, subfreezing temperatures are being observed in portions of Allegheny and Butler counties. With moisture from the fog settling on surfaces, light ice accumulation is possible on bridges, overpasses, and other elevated or untreated roadways.
Visibility may drop below one-half mile at times, especially in low-lying areas and river valleys around the Pittsburgh metro.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra stopping distance during the morning commute. Even thin layers of ice can create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on untreated surfaces.
Conditions are expected to improve after sunrise as temperatures gradually climb above freezing.
