Detroit, Michigan – A springlike surge of warmth will push temperatures near 58 degrees Wednesday before rain transitions to accumulating snow by late Thursday into Friday across Southeast Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, rain chances climb to 95 percent Wednesday as a widespread system moves into the region. High temperatures will range from the low 40s to upper 50s, warm enough for mainly rain across most of Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint and the Tri-Cities. A brief mix with freezing rain is possible early Wednesday north of I-69, but confidence remains low.

Thursday brings a 20 percent chance of lingering showers with highs between 40 and 55 degrees. Colder air then filters in late Thursday night, increasing the likelihood that precipitation changes to snow.

By Friday, snow chances rise to 70 percent, with highs dropping into the upper 30s to mid-40s. Roads could become slick, especially during the Friday commute as rain transitions to snow.

Drivers should monitor updates as temperatures cool and the late-week system strengthens. Additional advisories may be issued if snow totals trend higher.
