Grand Forks, ND – Drivers across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota should prepare for snow-covered highways and reduced visibility by late Tuesday night as a winter storm takes aim at the northern Plains.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Grand Forks and Bismarck, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening. Forecasters indicate a 50 to 70 percent chance of snowfall exceeding 6 inches across cities including Grand Forks, Devils Lake, Minot, Williston, Bemidji and Thief River Falls. Winds could gust up to 35 mph, leading to patchy blowing snow.

The heaviest snowfall is expected overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with impacts likely during both the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Roads such as Interstate 29, U.S. Highway 2 and U.S. Highway 83 may become snow-packed and slick as visibility drops in open rural areas.

Communities from Cavalier and Pembina south to Fargo-area approaches, along with northwest Minnesota towns like Roseau and Baudette, should monitor updates as confidence in snowfall totals increases.

Residents are urged to review travel plans, prepare emergency kits in vehicles and check 511 road reports before heading out. Watches may be upgraded to warnings as the storm track becomes clearer before Tuesday night.
