Fruita, Colorado – A vehicle crash into a Fruita home prompted a SWAT response Sunday morning.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Fruita Police Department and Mesa County deputies responded at 10:09 a.m. Feb. 15 to a report of a vehicle crashing into a residence in the 1600 block of POWs Lane.

Authorities said two occupants were inside the home when the crash occurred. The driver allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence after the collision and was believed to have access to firearms. The situation prompted assistance from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Junction Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

With the homeowner’s consent, SWAT officers entered the residence and deployed a drone to assess the situation. The male driver was later found deceased inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials said the incident was isolated and there is no outstanding threat to the community.
