Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers across the Delaware Valley have a narrow window before rain and snow spread in from the southwest late this afternoon, with slippery roads likely before the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, precipitation will overspread southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and northern Delaware through the evening. Snow will dominate north of the Interstate 78 corridor, including the Poconos and northern New Jersey, while mainly rain falls across southern Delaware and far southern New Jersey.
The rain/snow line is expected to set up near the Philadelphia metro and shift east toward the coast between 5 and 11 p.m. A slushy coating to 1 inch of snow is likely near and north of that line, including parts of Bucks, Montgomery, Mercer and Monmouth counties. Localized totals up to 2 inches are possible where precipitation remains all snow.
Precipitation will taper off from west to east between midnight and 4 a.m., though flurries or drizzle may linger through 7 a.m. Untreated roads and bridges could turn slick overnight into early Monday, especially in Allentown, Reading, Trenton and Morristown.
Commuters should allow extra travel time Monday morning and monitor local advisories for updates as temperatures hover near freezing overnight.
