Valdosta, Georgia – Residents along the Florida-Georgia line have less than two hours to prepare as a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 4 p.m. EST for portions of the Big Bend and south-central Georgia.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Tornado Watch 8 continues for Dixie, Lafayette, Madison and Taylor counties in Florida, along with Lanier and Lowndes counties in Georgia. This includes Valdosta, Lakeland, Madison, Perry, Cross City and surrounding communities. Conditions remain favorable for tornado development as strong thunderstorms track across the region this afternoon.

Coastal waters from the Suwannee River to Apalachee Bay are also included in the watch area, with boaters urged to seek safe harbor as storms approach. Gusty winds, frequent lightning and isolated tornadoes are all possible before 4 p.m.

Residents should stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA Weather Radio and mobile alerts. If a warning is issued, move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Additional warnings could be issued quickly as storms intensify through the remainder of the afternoon.
