Fort Myers, Florida – Lee County is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. EST Sunday, with damaging winds and hail possible.
Lee County is included in a broader tornado watch affecting parts of Florida and Georgia, as severe storms move across the region late Sunday afternoon and evening.
According to the US National Weather Service Tampa Bay, the watch includes the potential for a couple of tornadoes, isolated hail up to quarter size, and scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph. The watch remains in effect through 8 p.m. EST Sunday, Feb. 15.
The agency also stated that areas southward across the remainder of the Nature Coast and into parts of West Central Florida will continue to be monitored for additional severe potential, as the threat could extend into the late evening and overnight hours.
Residents in Lee County are advised to remain weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings in case conditions worsen. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornado development.
The watch area includes more than 3.1 million people, along with hundreds of schools and hospitals across the broader region.
Students, service workers, and evening commuters across Southwest Florida may experience weather-related disruptions if warnings are issued.
