Green Bay, WI – Snow and a light glaze of ice could begin impacting highways across northern Wisconsin by 6 p.m. Tuesday, with slippery travel expected along US-41 and Interstate 43 through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, confidence is increasing in winter weather impacts from late Tuesday through late Wednesday as a system moves across the region. Northern Wisconsin faces the greatest threat, with a 40 to 50 percent chance of at least 2 inches of snow and a 30 to 50 percent chance of light ice accumulation. The exact track and the location of the rain-to-snow line remain uncertain, which could shift totals north or south.

Communities including Green Bay, Appleton, Wausau, Rhinelander and Marinette sit within the higher impact zone. Roadways such as I-39 near Wausau, US-8 across Oneida County and US-141 toward the Upper Michigan border may see slick conditions during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Even a thin glaze of ice can create hazardous overpasses and untreated secondary roads.

Drivers should prepare now by checking tire tread, topping off windshield fluid and allowing extra travel time Tuesday night into Wednesday. School districts and local agencies may adjust schedules if confidence in ice totals increases.

Another system could bring additional winter impacts late Thursday into Friday. Watches or advisories may be issued as track details come into clearer focus.
