California – Waves are already pounding the shoreline this morning, and the surf will only build as the week begins. Sets up to 10 feet, with occasional 13-foot breakers, will slam San Diego County beaches starting late Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, a High Surf Advisory runs from 10 a.m. Monday through 4 a.m. Thursday. Large breaking waves of 8 to 10 feet are expected, with higher sets to 13 feet. A Wind Advisory is also in effect from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with south winds 15 to 25 mph and gusts between 30 and 40 mph, locally up to 45 mph.

Surf will peak Wednesday morning into Wednesday evening. Rip currents will strengthen quickly, especially near jetties and piers. Minor tidal overflow could push water into beach parking lots and along boardwalks. Lifeguards urge inexperienced swimmers to stay out of the water. Boaters should expect rough conditions near harbor entrances.

Rain develops Monday with a high near 63 and breezy conditions by afternoon. Showers continue Monday night and Tuesday, with highs in the low 60s before dipping closer to 60 by Wednesday. Roads may turn slick during heavier showers, so plan extra time if traveling along I-5 or coastal routes.

By Thursday and Friday, rain chances taper and skies brighten. Highs rebound into the lower 60s, and a milder trend builds into President’s Day week. Longer-range signals point to above-normal temperatures late next week, hinting at early spring vibes across Southern California.
