California – Sheets of rain and gusty winds are sweeping into Los Angeles this morning, and conditions will deteriorate quickly by midday. Roads are already slick, and standing water could develop fast on I-5, US-101 and the 110 as heavier bands move onshore.
According to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard, a Flood Watch remains in effect from 9 a.m. through 9 p.m. Monday, while a Wind Advisory runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Southwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph, with gusts between 45 and 55 mph. Rain totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties by Monday night.
Heavy rain will intensify at times today, especially near burn scar areas where debris flows are possible. Low-lying streets and flood-prone intersections could take on water quickly. Crews may respond to downed tree limbs as winds strengthen. Secure outdoor furniture now and allow extra travel time through the afternoon commute.
Rain continues into Monday night with additional showers Tuesday. Highs hover near 59 Monday, then rebound into the lower 60s Tuesday and Wednesday as showers become more scattered. By midweek, skies begin to clear, and a gradual warm-up sets the stage for milder President’s Day week weather. Longer-range trends hint at temperatures pushing 10 to 20 degrees above average across parts of the country later this month, a sign that early spring vibes are building.
