Georgia – Rain is already falling across metro Atlanta this morning, and wind gusts are picking up near Hartsfield-Jackson. Showers will intensify through midday, with thunderstorms developing before 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, rain and thunderstorms are likely today with a 100% chance of precipitation. Highs reach near 61 degrees. Southeast winds around 10 mph may gust as high as 20 mph. Between a half inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain could fall by late evening.

A few storms in central Georgia may become strong to marginally severe. Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Drivers along I-75, I-85 and I-285 should expect ponding and reduced visibility during heavier downpours.

Keep phones charged and enable weather alerts. Conditions may deteriorate quickly during stronger cells this afternoon.
