North Carolina – Rain taps against windshields across Raleigh this morning, and wet pavement is already slowing traffic along I-40. Steadier bands build by midday, and rainfall totals could reach three-quarters of an inch before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, rain becomes widespread today with a 100% chance of precipitation. Highs reach near 54 degrees with light east winds shifting southeast. Between a half inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain may fall, enough for ponding on roads and reduced visibility through evening.

Expect heavier bursts at times. Allow extra stopping distance on I-440 and Capital Boulevard. Low-lying spots could collect water by late afternoon. While severe weather remains focused deeper into the Southeast, central North Carolina stays on the soggy side of the system.

Rain tapers before daybreak Monday. Clouds linger into midmorning, then gradual clearing pushes highs to 58 degrees on Washington’s Birthday. By Monday night, skies turn mostly clear and temperatures dip to 36.

Tuesday, February 17, brings a noticeable warmup. Partly sunny skies send highs to 64 degrees. The midweek surge continues with highs near 69 Wednesday and low 70s by Thursday. That’s a strong February thaw and a preview of early spring vibes.

Looking ahead into President’s Day Week, longer-range guidance shows above-normal temperatures spreading east. Much of the central U.S. runs 10 to 20 degrees above average, and that warmth holds through late week with more rain chances returning Friday.

Monday: Gradual clearing, high 58.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, high 64.
