Kansas City, Missouri – Visibility has dropped to one-quarter mile or less across northern Missouri and northeast Kansas early Sunday, creating hazardous driving conditions along major corridors including I-29 and I-35 through 9 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, dense fog is impacting communities from St. Joseph and Maryville east toward Chillicothe and south toward the Kansas City metro. The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday, with the lowest visibility reported along I-29, I-35, U.S. 36 and I-70 near the Missouri River corridor. Drivers may encounter rapid changes in visibility, especially near low-lying areas and river valleys.

Motorists should slow down, use low-beam headlights and increase following distance during the early morning hours. Sudden visibility drops below 1,320 feet can leave little reaction time at highway speeds. Allow extra travel time and avoid abrupt lane changes.

Conditions will steadily improve by late morning as fog lifts and temperatures climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s. Above-normal warmth will continue through Thursday, with highs reaching the mid-60s to lower 70s. Tuesday could approach record highs across parts of northern Missouri and northeast Kansas.

While travel concerns ease after midmorning Sunday, elevated fire weather conditions may develop Tuesday as warmer temperatures combine with dry air. Additional updates will be issued if new advisories become necessary.
