Springfield, Illinois – Today is Sunday, and unseasonably mild temperatures will resume across central and southeast Illinois through much of the work week.

According to the US National Weather Service in Central Illinois, lingering rain in southeast Illinois will depart this morning as skies gradually clear. Patchy morning fog is also expected to dissipate as drier air moves in.

High temperatures will climb into the 50s and 60s through Thursday, with Springfield forecast to reach the upper 60s by Wednesday along the Interstate 55 corridor. Communities including Peoria, Bloomington and Champaign will see similar mild conditions.

The next chance for rain arrives Tuesday night, primarily for areas north of Interstate 70, with precipitation chances ranging from 20% to 40%. Another system is expected Thursday, bringing about a 40% chance of rain across much of central Illinois, including areas near Interstate 72 and U.S. Highway 51.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny and windy, with some locations approaching the upper 60s before cooler air returns late week.

While no significant hazards are forecast, wet roadways may develop during Tuesday night and Thursday rain periods.

Commuters, students and freight drivers traveling along I-55, I-72 and I-74 should monitor forecast updates as rain timing becomes clearer.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated through the week as additional systems approach.
