Binghamton, New York – Today is Sunday, and dry conditions will give way to light snow showers overnight across parts of Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania.
According to the US National Weather Service in Binghamton, high pressure will keep conditions dry and slightly warmer through the day Sunday, with afternoon highs reaching the 30s and 40s. Overnight lows will fall into the 20s and 30s.
A couple of systems are expected to clip the region late Sunday night into early Monday, bringing light snow showers. Forecasters say snowfall accumulations will generally total 1 inch or less, mainly concentrated over Northeast Pennsylvania and areas east of Interstate 81 in Central New York.
Higher elevations of the Poconos could see up to 2 inches of snow, particularly near communities such as Honesdale, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre.
Roadways along Interstate 81, as well as portions of Interstate 86 and regional routes including NY-13 near Ithaca, could become slick during the overnight and early Monday morning hours.
The snow is expected to be light and scattered, but untreated surfaces may become slippery before sunrise Monday.
Early-morning commuters, school transportation and freight traffic along I-81 should monitor road conditions.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes as the systems move through overnight.
