Caribou, Maine – Today is Sunday, and light snow could create slick roads in northern Maine early this week.

According to the US National Weather Service in Caribou, a bit of light snow is possible across the northern highlands late Monday night into Tuesday. Forecasters say this may result in some slippery roads early Tuesday morning, particularly along U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 95.

The probability of at least 1 inch of snowfall through Tuesday evening is highest across northern Aroostook County, including areas near Caribou, Fort Kent and Houlton. Lower probabilities extend farther south toward Bangor and Downeast communities.

Another system could bring a slight chance of snow to southern portions of the state Wednesday night. A better chance of more widespread snowfall is possible Friday night through Saturday, though specific amounts were not provided in the latest update.

Temperatures this week are expected to run milder compared to recent weeks. Highs will reach the upper 20s Sunday, climb into the lower 30s Monday and reach the mid-30s Tuesday. Highs Wednesday through Friday will generally range from the low to mid-30s, with some upper 20s across far northern areas.

Morning commuters, school transportation routes and early-shift workers along I-95 should monitor road conditions Tuesday if light snow develops overnight.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates as late-week snow chances become clearer.
