Nevada’s high desert chill is hanging over Reno this morning, with temperatures near 35 degrees and calm winds across the Truckee Meadows. The air feels crisp now, but a sharp weather turn is coming by President’s Day.
Highs climb into the mid-50s later today under mostly cloudy skies. That mild break continues into Sunday with sunshine early and highs near 55. By late Sunday night, rain becomes likely as a Pacific system pushes inland. Snow levels sit near 5,800 feet Sunday, then lower to around 5,000 feet overnight.
President’s Day Monday brings a colder shift. Rain mixes with snow during the day with highs only near 43 degrees. While little daytime accumulation is expected in Reno, conditions deteriorate quickly Monday night. Temperatures drop to around 26 degrees, and snow becomes likely with up to a half inch possible in town.
That may sound minor, but February snow on wet pavement can freeze fast. Watch for slick stretches on I-80 and I-580, especially on bridges and shaded ramps. Even light snow can snarl the Tuesday morning commute.
Tuesday stays cold with highs near 37 and additional snow showers possible. Tuesday night plunges to around 18 degrees, increasing the risk of icy roads. This is prime time for flash freezing if daytime melt refreezes after sunset.
Snow chances linger into midweek before gradual moderation late in President’s Day Week. Longer-range trends hint at a warming pattern building toward next weekend, with milder afternoons returning and early spring vibes inching closer to Nevada.
