Binghamton, NY – Above-freezing temperatures are expected across Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania today, bringing mild February conditions to major roadways and communities.
According to the US National Weather Service in Binghamton, high pressure is driving warmer air into the region, pushing afternoon highs into the upper 30s and low 40s. Forecast maps show Binghamton reaching about 38 degrees, with nearby areas such as Wilkes-Barre approaching 41 degrees.
Communities along Interstate 81, Route 17, and Route 13 — including Elmira, Ithaca, and Scranton — are expected to see similar readings ranging from 35 to 40 degrees. While skies will remain mostly cloudy, forecasters note that a few breaks of sun are possible during the afternoon hours.
Temperatures are projected to stay above freezing for much of the day before gradually falling into the upper 20s and low 30s tonight.
The warmer conditions may improve daytime travel along I-81 and surrounding highways compared to recent colder stretches, though cloudy skies could limit visibility at times.
The mild pattern is notable for mid-February, when average highs typically hover closer to the lower 30s across much of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.
Students heading home from school and late-afternoon commuters may notice the more comfortable conditions compared to earlier this week.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for any weekend changes.
