Springfield, Missouri – Widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches today could reach 3 inches in isolated spots near US-65, increasing runoff concerns across the Ozarks.

According to the US National Weather Service in Springfield, rain will continue through much of today before moving out Sunday morning. A few thunderstorms are possible early this morning west of Highway 65, with the highest rain chances occurring during the daytime hours.

Most communities, including Springfield, Branson, Joplin, Bolivar, and West Plains, are expected to receive between 1 and 2 inches of total rainfall. Localized pockets could approach 3 inches, particularly in areas where thunderstorms track repeatedly.

While recent dry conditions are expected to limit widespread flooding, forecasters note that brief rises in water levels and ponding in low-lying areas remain possible. Drivers along U.S. Highway 65, Interstate 44, and U.S. Highway 63 may encounter reduced visibility and standing water during heavier downpours.

Rain chances decrease significantly by Sunday afternoon, with drier conditions expected into early next week.

Looking ahead, temperatures are forecast to rise well above seasonal averages. Highs are expected in the 60s Sunday and Monday, climbing into the 70s by midweek — more than 20 degrees above normal for mid-February. Rain chances next week are projected to remain below 30 percent.

Residents with outdoor plans are encouraged to remain weather aware today and monitor updates for changing conditions.
