Caribou, Maine – Snow showers spreading across northern Maine Saturday could bring up to 2 inches in localized heavier bands, affecting travel along U.S. Route 1 and Interstate 95.

According to the US National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will move into northwest Maine early Saturday morning, reaching the northeast by mid-morning and expanding eastward by late morning. Showers are expected to become more widespread through the afternoon and early evening.

Forecasters expect relatively light accumulations overall, with totals around 1 to 1.5 inches across northern areas, 0.5 to 1 inch across western sections, and near 0.5 inch in the Central Highlands. However, northern communities could see periods of heavier snow showers during the afternoon, pushing localized totals closer to 2 inches.

Cities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Frenchville, and Millinocket may experience reduced visibility and slippery road conditions, particularly during heavier bursts. Travel along Interstate 95, U.S. Route 1, and Route 11 could become slick at times as snow accumulates on untreated surfaces.

The primary hazards include reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions, especially during peak snowfall between late morning and early evening.

Additional light snow is possible across northern Maine on Tuesday, though details remain limited.

Drivers, including weekend travelers and commercial traffic along I-95, are encouraged to allow extra stopping distance and monitor updated forecasts at weather.gov/car.
