New York’s Capital Region feels locked in a deep February chill, and a few light snow showers are drifting across Albany as the morning unfolds. Temperatures hover near 22 degrees, and untreated pavement remains stiff and slick.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a slight chance of snow showers continues through early afternoon, with highs reaching near 37 degrees. Calm winds shift west around 6 mph. While accumulation stays light, brief bursts of snow could create slippery stretches along I-87, I-90 and Route 7.

Drivers should watch bridges and shaded ramps. Even minor melting this afternoon can refreeze quickly after sunset as temperatures fall toward 19 degrees. This is prime flash-freeze season across the Hudson Valley.

Sunday turns quieter with increasing clouds and a high near 34 degrees. Another slight chance of snow showers develops Sunday night, with lows around 24. Even light snow can coat cold roads fast ahead of the Monday commute.

President’s Day brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 41 degrees. That modest thaw continues into Tuesday with highs near 44 under mostly cloudy skies. By Wednesday, rain becomes likely after midday with highs near 41. Rain may mix with or change to snow Wednesday night as temperatures dip toward 28.

Long-range trends point to a broader warming pattern late next week, with above-average temperatures possible across much of the Northeast.
