New York – Light snowflakes swirl across parts of the city this morning, and at 33 degrees, it only takes a thin glaze to turn bridges and overpasses slick. Wet pavement on the FDR Drive and I-95 could refreeze in shaded spots, especially where temperatures hover near freezing. If you’re heading out, give yourself extra time.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, there’s a 30 percent chance of snow showers early today, mainly before 7 a.m., with north winds around 10 mph. Wind chills are sitting in the 20s, adding a biting edge to the air. Any brief burst of snow could reduce visibility and create slushy patches.
Skies gradually brighten through the afternoon, and highs climb toward 43 degrees. That modest thaw will help melt leftover snow piles across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Still, as temperatures dip back near 31 tonight under mostly clear skies, flash freezing becomes a concern. Meltwater can refreeze on untreated roads and sidewalks. Watch for black ice late tonight into early Sunday.
Sunday turns partly sunny with highs near 39 degrees. Another 30 percent chance of snow arrives Sunday night as lows settle near 34. By Monday, clouds linger with highs around 41 degrees, followed by a milder push Tuesday near 46.
President’s Day week trends warmer. Highs edge into the mid-40s to upper 40s, with rain chances building by midweek. Longer range signals hint at above-normal temperatures heading toward late February, a preview of early spring vibes.
