San Antonio, Texas – Isolated strong to severe storms could bring large hail and lightning along Interstate 35 after 6 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a Level 1 of 5 marginal risk for severe weather is in place Friday evening across portions of south-central Texas. The greatest storm potential is expected after 6 p.m., mainly west of the Interstate 35 corridor.

Forecasters say a few storms could become strong, producing large hail and frequent lightning. The highest rain chances overnight are north of a Del Rio to Rocksprings line. Rainfall totals are generally expected to remain under one-tenth of an inch in most areas.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms are forecast to gradually increase after midnight, with low temperatures mainly in the 60s. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, officials advise residents with outdoor plans to remain weather aware.

Communities including San Antonio, Austin, New Braunfels, Kerrville, and Del Rio may experience brief downpours and lightning during the evening hours. Drivers along I-35, I-10, and U.S. Highway 90 should prepare for isolated heavy rain and reduced visibility during stronger cells.

Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather warnings, particularly for events occurring outdoors Friday evening.

Students, service workers, and Friday night event attendees may encounter brief weather disruptions.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as storm coverage and intensity become clearer through the evening.
