Indianapolis, Indiana – Rain moving in late Saturday could bring up to a half inch and raise ice jam concerns along central Indiana rivers.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, central Indiana will remain mostly clear and cool tonight, with overnight lows falling into the lower 30s and some upper 20s in rural areas. Conditions remain dry through much of Saturday before rain spreads into the region late in the day.
Saturday highs are expected to reach the upper 40s to mid-50s, with increasing cloud cover during the afternoon. Rain is forecast to develop Saturday night and continue into Sunday morning, with scattered to widespread showers across the region.
Rainfall totals are expected to range from less than one-tenth of an inch across northern counties to nearly one-half inch across southern Indiana. Areas south of Indianapolis, including communities near Interstate 65 and Interstate 69, are more likely to see higher totals.
High temperatures Sunday will remain in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Looking ahead, a warming trend is expected to continue into next week.
Forecasters note that the combination of rain and milder temperatures may increase the risk of ice jam development along area rivers, including portions of the White River. Motorists traveling along Interstate 70, Interstate 65, and Interstate 74 should monitor conditions for potential ponding on roadways during heavier showers.
Commuters and students returning Sunday evening may encounter wet roads.
