Shreveport, Louisiana – The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Saturday, February 14, in the Four State Region, including areas of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Damaging winds, small hail, and isolated tornadoes are the primary threats from Saturday afternoon into the evening, particularly along major highways like I-20 and I-49.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop through the afternoon and continue into the evening, with the most significant risks affecting central and northern Louisiana, eastern Texas, and parts of Arkansas. Areas along I-20, including Shreveport, are in the highest-risk zone for damaging winds and hail. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible, along with hail ranging from penny to quarter-sized in some areas. A few isolated tornadoes are also a threat.
The National Weather Service advises residents to have multiple ways of receiving weather updates, including NOAA weather radios and smartphone apps, especially if traveling along routes like I-20 or I-49. Severe weather could cause sudden road hazards such as reduced visibility and debris on the road, so drivers are urged to take caution.
Those in the affected area should stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. The risk of severe thunderstorms will be heightened during the late afternoon through the evening hours. Travelers and residents are urged to stay indoors during the storms, avoid driving through flooded areas, and follow any warnings issued by local authorities.
Be sure to monitor updated forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe on Saturday.
