Chicago, Illinois – The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory for tonight as temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s outside of Chicago, with areas closer to the lake remaining a bit warmer. Clear skies will help cool temperatures quickly, but they also present the possibility of patchy shallow fog in the region, especially along major highways like I-80, I-90, and I-94.

Temperatures in the city are forecast to dip to between 25°F and 35°F, with the coldest temperatures expected south of US-24, where readings could fall as low as 20°F. Early morning travelers are encouraged to be cautious as visibility may be reduced due to the fog, which could affect roadways like I-80 and I-94, particularly in areas further south of the city.

The National Weather Service highlights that the warmer areas closer to Lake Michigan will remain in the mid-30s overnight, with less likelihood of fog formation in these areas. The combination of chilly temperatures and moisture could cause some early-morning commuters to encounter reduced visibility on roads, especially those traveling on highways or open stretches.

Looking ahead, the weather will remain dry for the next several days, with temperatures rising into the 50s by Saturday. An unseasonably warm trend will continue into early next week, with highs expected to reach the mid-50s by Monday.

For now, travelers are urged to drive carefully early Tuesday morning and be prepared for the possibility of fog while conditions remain cold but calm.
