Fort Worth and surrounding areas are under a weather alert as widespread rain and storms are expected to move into the region tonight, continuing into early Saturday, February 14. According to the US National Weather Service Fort Worth, the storms will bring anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 inches of beneficial rain, with localized areas receiving up to 2 inches. Although the risk of severe weather is low, a few strong storms with small hail and gusty winds are possible.

Rain will begin to increase after 6 PM on Friday, with most areas experiencing light to moderate showers by the evening hours. The heaviest rainfall is expected through the night, lingering into Saturday morning. Rain chances will hold off for most of the day, but storms will likely reappear by late evening.

Residents and travelers along major highways, including I-35 and surrounding roadways, should prepare for hazardous travel conditions, as gusty winds and heavy rain may reduce visibility and cause slick spots. By early Sunday morning, the rain will move out of the area, leaving behind clear skies and a warm start to the week with highs reaching the 70s and 80s, well above the normal temperature range.

In addition to the storms, an elevated fire risk is expected by midweek, particularly west of I-35. This means residents should be cautious with outdoor activities in the days following the storm system’s departure. As the weather system moves out, residents can expect clear, warm conditions into the start of the new week.
