Michigan, Grand Rapids – A sharp 12-degree start locks in a deep February chill this morning, but bright sunshine is already triggering a quick afternoon melt across western Michigan.

Clear skies push temperatures to 38 by midafternoon. Calm winds turn southwest at 5 to 8 mph, with occasional gusts near 20 mph. According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, temperatures slide back to around 23 tonight under partly cloudy skies.

That drop raises a flash-freeze concern. Melted snow and damp pavement can refreeze quickly after sunset, especially on bridges along I-196 and US-131. Drivers should slow down before dawn Saturday and watch shaded ramps.

Saturday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 40. Saturday night turns mostly cloudy with lows around 28. Sunday continues the steady thaw, with sunshine and highs reaching 43.

President’s Day Monday climbs to 46 under mostly sunny skies. Monday night stays above freezing near 34, limiting icy risk for now. Tuesday pushes even milder, with highs near 48 and partial sunshine.

Midweek shifts wetter. Showers become likely Tuesday night into Wednesday as highs climb to 52. With nighttime lows in the 30s, a brief rain-snow mix cannot be ruled out if temperatures hover near 32, though no accumulation is expected at this time.

The 6- to 10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across Michigan, signaling early spring vibes into late next week.
