Ohio, Cleveland – A biting 19-degree start grips the Lake Erie shoreline this morning, but sunshine is already working to chip away at the deep February chill.

Skies stay bright through the afternoon with highs climbing to 38. Calm winds turn southwest at 5 to 8 mph, taking the edge off the cold. According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, temperatures dip to around 29 tonight under partly cloudy skies.

That sets up a classic refreeze scenario. Melted snow from today can harden again after sunset, especially on bridges along I-90, I-71 and the Shoreway. Drivers should watch for black ice in shaded stretches before sunrise Saturday.

Saturday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 40. Saturday night turns mostly cloudy with lows around 31. Sunday continues the gradual February thaw, with sunshine and highs reaching 46.

President’s Day Monday pushes even milder air into northern Ohio. Highs rise to 48 under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday reaches 51 with partial sunshine, marking the first 50-degree reading of the stretch.

Midweek introduces rain chances. Showers become possible Tuesday night into Wednesday as highs climb toward the mid-50s. With nighttime lows in the 30s and 40s, no snow or ice is expected for now, but temperatures remain close enough to freezing to monitor.

The 6- to 10-day outlook favors above-normal temperatures across Ohio, signaling a steady warm front pattern into late next week.
