San Antonio, Texas – Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across South Central Texas beginning Friday evening and continuing into Saturday, with large hail and damaging winds the primary concerns.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms is in place Friday evening after 6 p.m., mainly across Val Verde County and portions of the western Hill Country. Isolated strong storms could produce large hail and frequent lightning.

On Saturday afternoon and evening, the marginal severe risk expands across much of South Central Texas, including Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels and surrounding communities. Forecasters say damaging wind gusts and large hail will be the main threats, though not all areas will experience severe weather.

Storm coverage is expected to increase through Saturday evening before tapering off overnight.

Motorists traveling along I-35, I-10, US-90, US-281 and Loop 1604 should remain alert for sudden downpours, reduced visibility and brief strong wind gusts during heavier storms.

Residents with outdoor plans Friday night or Saturday are encouraged to monitor weather updates and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

While the overall severe threat remains limited, isolated storms could intensify quickly.
