Austin, Texas – Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue across South-Central Texas, with highs climbing into the 70s and 80s before rain chances increase late Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, afternoon highs Friday will range from the mid-70s to mid-80s, running 10 to 15 degrees above mid-February averages. Austin and San Antonio are forecast to reach near 80 degrees, while Del Rio could climb to 86 degrees. Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Georgetown are expected to remain in the 70s to near 80.

Patchy morning fog is possible in isolated areas before skies turn partly cloudy during the afternoon.

Rain and thunderstorm chances increase Saturday into Saturday evening, with precipitation probabilities as high as 70% to 90% in some locations. Rainfall totals of 0.5 to 2 inches are possible through early Monday, though most areas are expected to average between 0.5 and 1.5 inches.

After the weekend system moves through, dry and warm conditions are expected to return and persist through much of next week, with highs remaining in the upper 70s to mid-80s.

Motorists traveling along I-35, I-10, US-90, US-281 and Loop 1604 should prepare for wet roads Saturday night, though widespread flooding is not currently anticipated.

For commuters and outdoor planners, the warmest and driest window will be Friday before rain develops.
