Springfield, Illinois – Mild temperatures in the 50s and near 60 degrees are expected across central Illinois through early next week, with rain chances increasing this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, highs will reach the lower to upper 50s through Sunday, with temperatures climbing to around 60 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows tonight are forecast in the lower to mid-30s.
Rain chances develop Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday morning. The highest probabilities — around 80% — are expected south of I-72, while areas farther north may see lower coverage. Rain chances Saturday night range from 40% to 80% across the region.
Sunday is expected to feature decreasing clouds as precipitation tapers off, followed by partly cloudy skies Monday. Another slight chance of rain returns Tuesday night.
Communities including Springfield, Champaign, Peoria, Bloomington and Decatur should prepare for wet roadways Saturday afternoon into early Sunday. Drivers along I-55, I-72, I-74, I-39 and US-51 may encounter reduced visibility during periods of steady rain.
Despite the rainfall, widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time.
For students and commuters, the warmest days are expected Monday and Tuesday, offering improved travel conditions after weekend showers.
