Flagstaff, Arizona – Scattered rain and high-elevation snow showers are expected across northern Arizona today, creating wet and potentially slick travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a storm system moving through the region will bring precipitation throughout Friday. Snow levels are forecast to remain relatively high, generally between 7,000 and 8,000 feet.

Lower elevations, including areas along I-40 near Winslow and stretches of I-17 south of Flagstaff, are expected to see mainly rain. Higher terrain above 7,000 feet — including portions of the Mogollon Rim and areas near Flagstaff — could experience accumulating snow showers.

Forecast maps indicate light to moderate precipitation amounts across much of the region. While widespread heavy snow is not expected, localized slick spots are possible in higher elevations where snow falls on road surfaces.

Drivers along I-40, I-17, US-89, AZ-87 and AZ-69 should prepare for wet pavement and reduced traction, particularly in elevated areas during heavier showers.

Dry conditions are expected to return Saturday and persist through the weekend, allowing roadways to improve.

For commuters and travelers, the most notable impacts are expected Friday before improving weather this weekend.
