Caribou, Maine – Snow showers are expected across northern and eastern Maine on Saturday, with periods of heavier bursts possible during the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered snow showers may develop during the morning hours before intensifying at times in the afternoon. While overall accumulations are expected to remain minimal, localized heavier snow showers could produce around 1 inch in isolated areas.

Forecasters say reduced visibility and slippery travel conditions are possible, particularly during heavier snow bursts. There is also a low chance for isolated snow squalls, which can briefly create near-whiteout conditions.

Communities including Caribou, Presque Isle, Houlton, Millinocket and Bangor may see changing conditions throughout the day. Travel impacts are possible along US-1, I-95, US-2 and Route 9, especially during the afternoon when heavier showers are most likely.

Hazards highlighted by officials include reduced visibility, snow drifts in open areas and slick road surfaces.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to warm into the 30s by early next week. Another system could bring additional precipitation by midweek, though confidence in track and impacts remains low.

For students, weekend travelers and those with outdoor plans, conditions may change quickly Saturday afternoon.
