Spokane, Washington – Periods of snow and mixed precipitation are expected across the Inland Northwest through midweek, impacting mountain travel and possibly valley floors.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Friday will bring mostly cloudy skies with chances for mountain snow showers. Snow amounts up to 1 inch are possible across higher passes.
Scattered lowland rain and mountain snow showers are forecast Saturday into Sunday. Snow totals in the Cascades and northern Idaho mountains could reach 4 to 7 inches through the weekend, creating winter travel conditions along I-90, US-2 and US-95.
Forecasters say a colder system arriving late Tuesday into Wednesday may increase the chance for snow showers reaching some valley floors, including areas near Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. Mountain passes could see an additional 4 to 6 inches during that period, with current projections carrying about a 60% probability.
Officials caution that forecast details may shift in the coming days, particularly regarding valley snow potential.
Drivers planning travel over Lookout Pass, Fourth of July Pass and Snoqualmie Pass should prepare for periods of reduced visibility and snow-covered roadways, especially late Saturday through Sunday and again Tuesday night.
For students and commuters, changing conditions could affect early morning travel next week if valley snow develops.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts at weather.gov/spokane as the system evolves.
