Houston, Texas – Dense fog reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less is impacting portions of Southeast Texas through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston-Galveston, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CST Friday for inland areas, Galveston Bay, Matagorda Bay and the Gulf waters.

Forecasters report inland visibility may drop below one-quarter mile at times, while marine visibility could fall below one nautical mile. The advisory covers areas including Houston, League City, Baytown, Texas City and surrounding communities.

The reduced visibility is expected to create hazardous driving conditions along major corridors including I-45, I-10, SH-146 and US-59 during the early morning commute. Officials advise motorists to slow down, increase following distance and use low-beam headlights. Drivers are also encouraged to allow extra travel time.

Marine operators navigating Galveston Bay and nearby Gulf waters should use caution, as dense fog may significantly limit visibility and increase navigation risks.

Fog typically develops overnight under light winds and humid conditions and may fluctuate in density before gradually improving after sunrise Friday.

For students and morning commuters, the greatest impacts are expected before 9 a.m., when visibility may change rapidly over short distances.

Residents are urged to monitor the latest updates at weather.gov/houston and follow guidance from local officials.
