Jackson, Kentucky – Dry and chilly conditions will give way to soaking weekend rain across eastern Kentucky.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, high pressure will move northeast tonight, bringing mostly clear skies and overnight lows between 20 and 28 degrees. Friday turns mostly sunny, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 40s to mid-50s across communities including Jackson, London, Hazard and Pikeville.
A warming trend continues Saturday, with highs reaching 55 to 61 degrees before clouds increase late in the day. Rain chances rise Saturday night, with probabilities increasing from 20% to 80% as a low-pressure system approaches the region.
Widespread rain is expected Sunday, with precipitation chances near 90%. High temperatures Sunday will range from 48 to 56 degrees, with overnight lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.
Officials say the rainfall could be soaking at times during the second half of the weekend before high pressure returns Monday, bringing drier conditions back to the area.
Drivers along I-75, KY-15, US-23 and KY-80 should prepare for wet roadways and reduced visibility late Saturday night into Sunday. While no severe weather is currently forecast, steady rainfall may lead to ponding in low-lying areas.
For students and commuters, Friday offers the most favorable travel conditions before rain impacts develop over the weekend.
