Frankfort, Kentucky – Rain could impact Kentucky Feb. 18-22, with mild temperatures limiting winter precipitation risk.
According to the National Weather Service 6-10 Day Outlook issued Thursday, Feb. 12, above-normal precipitation is favored across Kentucky during the Feb. 18-22 period. Most of the state, including Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green, is expected to see primarily rain.
Unlike areas farther north across the Midwest and Great Lakes where snow and sleet are possible, Kentucky is forecast to remain largely above freezing. That temperature trend reduces the likelihood of snow or ice accumulation across central and western counties.
Eastern Kentucky, including Pikeville and higher elevations near the Virginia border, could see brief periods of mixed precipitation if temperatures fluctuate during overnight hours. However, widespread winter weather impacts are not currently projected.
The broader weather pattern supports heavier snowfall potential across Minnesota and Wisconsin, with mixed precipitation extending into parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania. Across the Ohio Valley, rain is expected to be the dominant precipitation type.
For commuters and students returning after President’s Day week, periods of steady rain could create slick roads and reduced visibility, particularly along Interstate 64, Interstate 65 and Interstate 75 corridors during peak travel hours.
The National Weather Service notes that 6-10 day outlooks reflect probability trends rather than specific storm totals. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts for refined rainfall timing and amounts as the period approaches.
