San Francisco, California – A widespread rain pattern Sunday could bring up to 6 inches in parts of the Bay Area.

According to the US National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey, a pattern change will begin Sunday, shifting the region into several days of wet conditions. Forecasters expect nearly daily but intermittent periods of rainfall from Sunday onward.

Rainfall totals across the region could average between 2 and 4 inches, with isolated areas receiving up to 6 inches, particularly in higher terrain and coastal ranges. The system is expected to impact communities from San Francisco and Oakland to San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Monterey.

The weather service said the extended rainfall may increase the potential for flooding in low-lying areas, poor drainage zones, and flood-prone locations. Periods of heavier rain could also cause ponding on roadways and slower travel times.

Motorists along US Highway 101, Interstate 80, Interstate 280, Interstate 880, and California Highway 1 may experience slick roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavier downpours Sunday and into early next week.

Urban commuters, students, and service workers traveling during peak hours could encounter delays if rainfall intensifies.

Officials encourage residents to monitor forecasts and stay updated through weather.gov/mtr as the system develops. While no specific warning was highlighted in the post, the agency noted that forecast details, including rainfall amounts and timing, may evolve.

The wet pattern is expected to continue beyond Sunday, with additional updates likely as confidence in totals and impacts increases.
