Providence has recorded 8.9 inches of snow this season, below normal levels.
According to the National Weather Service Eastern Region, Providence, Rhode Island measured 8.9 inches of snowfall as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, compared to a normal 12.3 inches through the same date.
The regional update shows parts of southern New England running near to below seasonal averages this winter, in contrast to heavier accumulations reported across upstate New York and northern New England.
The National Weather Service noted measurable snowfall has been observed at each primary reporting location included in the Eastern U.S. summary — an uncommon seasonal milestone across the broader region.
While Rhode Island totals remain modest compared to northern states, periodic winter systems have still required plowing operations and travel adjustments during peak events.
For commuters and students across the state, below-normal snowfall has meant fewer widespread disruptions compared to recent winters.
The snowfall year runs from July 1 through June 30.
