Winston-Salem, North Carolina – The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed its official Facebook page was briefly compromised by hackers Tuesday before being secured.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, followers noticed unusual posts appearing on the agency’s Facebook page on February 11. Administrators were immediately notified and began working to regain control of the account.

Officials said staff spent several hours accessing and securing the page to prevent further unauthorized activity. The sheriff’s office reported the account has since been secured and safety measures were implemented to prevent future disruptions.

Major Van C. Loveland stated that even law enforcement agencies are not immune to online security threats. He encouraged the public to regularly monitor their accounts, change passwords frequently, and report suspicious activity to appropriate authorities.

Authorities did not specify the nature of the unauthorized posts but indicated no operational systems were affected. The incident appears limited to the social media platform.

The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation for employees who identified the issue quickly and worked to resolve it before significant damage occurred.

Residents who follow the agency online are encouraged to verify information through official channels and report any suspicious messages claiming to be from law enforcement.

The investigation into the breach remains ongoing.
